Today I attended the Huddle Conference, an annual event for Utah youth groups. It appeared to be a typical church event, and I can’t help but feel that I never get anything out of these things because my interests lay in other areas. At the event, we were allowed to attend classes on various topics that Christians face in their day to day lives.
I had planned on attending a class on “How to be more than a Volunteer” that a friend of mine was teaching during the second session. I ended up sitting through a talk on suicide by a woman with whom I know through my friend. It was the third session that was the highlight of the entire event. I was excited to see that the name of the seminar was “How to Witness to LDS Friends,” a topic that could be of mild apologetical value. My heart nearly jumped into my throat when I saw Shawn McCraney’s name.
McCraney is the top Christian apologist on the topic of Mormonism. He was an LDS member for 40 years of his life, but after a personal experience with Jesus Christ he changed his mind and became a Christian. For the last five or so years he has authored a book titled “Born Again Mormon” and runs a successful TV program in Utah called Heart of the Matter. Through these mediums, Shawn has made it his mission in life to bring hard questions to Mormons and show them a way to a right relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
The talk was very interesting and motivated me to reconsider a few of my arguments against the Mormon faith. I’ll me making posts on all of these topics in the future but for now check out Shawn’s website at http://hotm.tv
